Right decision with Mygoodgrace

11th Nov 2011

Following the disappointing performance of Mygoodgrace (Royal Academy) at Ellerslie three-weeks-ago trainer Donna Logan was not sure she would take the four-year-old to Christchurch.

However the input of co-owners Garry Cossey and Mark Treloar proved fruitful when she won the Listed Valachi Downs Canterbury Breeders’ Stakes on Wednesday.

“Garry Cossey mapped this race out quite some time ago, but we were all a little bit apprehensive after her dismal run at Ellerslie”, explained Co-Trainer Donna Logan.

“ Mark Treloar said ‘ I’d rather run 10th in a black-type race in the South Island than 10th Counties (NRM/Auckland Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes)’ so we said bugger it we will go.

A pick-up ride for Jason Collett, replacing the injured James MacDonald, the bay mare proved too good for her opposition crossing the line a length clear of Final Touch (NZ) (Kashani) who fought off One Nite Stand (NZ) (Cullen) for second position.

“I’m very pleased, it was a lovely ride from Jason,” said Logan. “I was really uncertain after her last race so I put the blinkers on and she worked up sensational with them on.

“We flew her down here yesterday and she hasn’t missed an oat or a beat, she is like me she loves travelling.

Bred by the Good Faith Partnership and raced by Treloar, Cossey, A Campbell, D McDonald, S Logan and the Rising Star Syndicate Mygoodgrace is by Royal Academy from the Group One ARC Sire Produce Stakes winning mare Good Faith (NZ) (Straight Strike).
