Myers shines on second day of Cup Week

11th Nov 2011

Kelly Myers returned from a brief stint in Australia with Patrick Payne with little fanfare however there was no mistaking she is back when she rode a treble at Riccarton on Wednesday including the feature race, the Group Two Couplands Bakeries Mile (1600m).

Myers opened her winning account onboard Crocodile Cannon (NZ) (Jahafil) and Nashville (NZ) (Darci Brahma) who was impressive on debut.

She then put the icing on the cake when scoring a dominate win on Platinum Princess (NZ) (Keeper) in the feature.

The Lisa Latta-trained five- year-old posted a half-length victory over the game Twilight Savings (NZ) (Secret Savings) with Zabisco (NZ) (Zabeel) finishing in third position.

“She began well enough. We didn’t want to dig her out because she can get up and pull but she travelled beautifully - she was lovely and relaxed with the blinkers on today,” explained Myers.

“I couldn’t have really asked for a better run. The gaps all opened up down the inside for me. Everyone was a bit scared of that inside running but there was nothing wrong with it and we were happy to be there.”

The win was a special one for Latta who trains the horse for loyal owners John Street of Lincoln Farms and Neville McAlister.

“The biggest thing it is that this is the first horse John Street has bought with Neville McAlistar and this has been one of their biggest wins," Latta said.

“It’s a huge thrill she won really well. We didn’t have the hood on her the last time she won the Couplands Bakeries Mile Trial and Kelly felt she needed it on to sharpen her up a bit and it did, it really sharpened her up today."

Bred by Karreman Bloodstock Ltd Platinum Princess (NZ) is by Cambridge Stud-based sire Keeper (Danehill) from the American Machiavellian (Mr. Prospector) mare Merle Park.
